Move Forward or Stay Behind? - Original Poem

Move forward or stay behind?
This is something I have always struggled to decide.
Am I to move forward?
Or am I here to stay?
I have to learn how to bend,
To move away from the past,
Without my world caving in on me.
The future seems clouded to me,
The past is clear.
The easier path is the past,
More difficult paths wind into the future,
A place I have to face sooner or later.
So, hey,
Why not?
I'll step forward into tomorrow
But I'll keep one foot in the past,
Allowing me to keep myself
Without completely secluding myself from the modern day.
So again I hear the question,
It rings in my ears and bounces around inside my head asking:
Move forward or stay behind?
And I finally have my answer!
I will do both,
At the same time.
